But, to minimize misinterpretations of the sound of Sister Friction, we at Incidental Records will attempt to categorize: Sister Friction is the sound of post-1976 pop culture, influenced by the sounds of classic new wave, synth pop, dance, funk, industrial, etc... where music is music, sound is sound, and the belief that everything can happily co-exist is paramount. Non-hetero themes are often thrown in for added flavour. Clear as mud? The debut album Glamour...My Ass! was recorded in Robert's home studio, by Robert. Production, arrangements, programming, performance, recording, mixing ... everything, all Robert (except for one collaboration and two remixes). This approach was taken because #1: it's more cost-effective than renting studio time, #2: it allows for more experimentation, #3: it puts control of the music in the hands of the artist, a good place for it to be. The origins of Sister Friction go back to 1983, when Robert first started to write songs. After going through several name changes and becoming more skilled at the art of songwriting, 1991 saw the introduction of Racket Club. This was the name of his project until mid 1997 when the release date of Glamour...My Ass! was drawing near and it was time for another change. Glamour...My Ass! is the first commercially available album from all of Robert's projects. There have been semi-available cassette albums and EP's over the years, but they were mainly demos, although three Racket Club tracks did show up on compilation CD's during the mid 90's. Some songs on Glamour...My Ass! are from these demos, one of which dates way back to 1986. So you could say Glamour...My Ass! took 11 years to write and record. Sort of. The next one shouldn't take quite as long. :-) Hey! The next one is here already ... the Sometimes EP, not quite an album but album -length and loads of fun! The label that Glamour...My Ass! is on, Incidental Records, is also run by Robert. After considering the option of using the services of an established label, he decided that it would be more interesting to start his own label. He also had ideas for how his CD's should sound and look and he didn't want that vision to get blurred. Stop, look and listen to Glamour...My Ass! and the Sometimes EP and experience the emerging design of today's sensational Sister Friction, brought to you by the wonderful people of Incidental Records. |
