Position Available: Concert Band Director

Rochester Civic Music, a municipal producing/presenting organization, seeks applicants for the position of Concert Band Director. The Concert Band is a 60-member ensemble, open by competitive audition only, and musicians are compensated on a per-service basis. The Concert Band currently performs six concert cycles per year, three during the summer season and three during the September-May season.

Three Guest Conductor/Candidates are sought for the 1998-99 season. Each Conductor/Candidate will conduct two concert cycles during the 1998-99 season, one during the summer and one during the September-May season.

Interested applicants should submit the following not later than April 6, 1998:

a. Cover letter. This letter must address the applicant's vision of the role of a Concert Band Director and producing ensembles in a municipal arts entity whose mission is to: 1) Develop, organize, promote and administer a comprehensive, coordinated music program for the City; 2) Provide music for the general public within the limits of the funds made available for that purpose; and 3) Promote and encourage all music and musical activities of a public nature in the city of Rochester and vicinity.

b. Narrative biography and resume.

c. List of professional references.

d. Portfolio of letters of reference and reviews. e. Two sample programs for the 1998-99 season. The first program is to be designed for family audiences and to be performed in a free, outdoor park setting during the summer. The second program is to be designed as a "Serious Fun" Concert Band and Choir event to be programmed in the concert hall during the September-May season. List pieces to be programmed including composer/arranger/publisher/running time for each piece, suggested guest artist/soloist (if required) noting management and fee range, and special production considerations (sound, lights, staging, etc.). Also provide sample program notes for this second concert.

Position Available: Concert Choir Director

Application Deadline: April 6, 1998

Rochester Civic Music, a municipal producing/presenting organization, seeks applicants for the position of Concert Choir Director. The Concert Choir Director is responsible for coordinating, rehearsing, and conducting (as appropriate and/or required) performances of the Concert Choir. This is a part-time, temporary, seasonal position that is paid on a per-service basis. The Concert Choir Director reports directly to the Concert Band Director and indirectly to the General Manager.

Interested applicants should submit the following not later than April 6, 1998:
