Detailed Description:
The members of the Hopkins Westwind Concert Band, under the direction of Don Bates, invite you to join them at their fall concert at the Hopkins Center for the Arts on Sunday, November 1, 2009, at 7:00PM. The concert is part of the HWCB's "MUSIC FOR THE COMMUNITY" events. Highlighted will be the world premiere of Passacaglia in G Minor, written in the style of J. S. Bach, by Minnesota composer J. Robert Hanson, and Fantasia in G, by Timothy Mahr, which weaves the well-known Ode to Joy theme from Beethoven?s Ninth Symphony throughout a very musical and contemporary setting by this talented Minnesota based composer.
Rounding out the program will be a splendid brass fanfare by Richard Strauss, a rousing circus march, selections from the William Byrd Suite by Gordon Jacob, a great medley of show tunes, the band?s usual patriotic finale, and more! Come share this fine music with the HWCB and join us in opening our twenty-seventh season on November 1.
As usual, all HWCB concerts are free but you must reserve a ticket. Call 952.979.1111 after October 1 to make your reservations.
Free public parking is available in downtown Hopkins.
For more information, visit the HWCB website: www.hopkinswestwind.org.
The Hopkins Westwind Concert Band is proud to partner with the Hopkins Public Schools Community Education Program to offer lifelong musical learning.
