Detailed Description:
The past fifty years has been an exciting and dynamic voyage of discovery for
American band music. Once limited to providing music for the field and parade
route, bands now rival orchestras in presenting serious new music in concert
halls.
Leonard Bernstein was one of the "new breed," leading the way for music to be a
reflection of society. The other composers on the program, Samuel Hazo, Thom
Ritter George, Eric Osterling, and Frank Ticheli are all contemporary composers
dedicated to helping enlighten audiences with their new and insightful music.
The Hopkins Westwind Concert Band invites you to enjoy their presentation of
compositions from the last half century - energetic dance rhythms, dreamy
ballads, and rousing antiphonal brass fanfares.
