Detailed Description:
The Vintage Band Music Festival takes place over four busy days in Northfield, Minnesota, July 27-30, 2006. This international event is held in Northfield this summer, but has often been in Europe. It is a festival of music performed by bands playing on antique instruments in a style of bygone days. Held in the historic river town of Northfield, the festival will include performers from Sweden, Germany, and several American groups including Civil War re-enactment bands.

VBF will feature over 40 outdoor concerts by 15 historical wind music bands such as 18th Century European harmoniemusik ensembles, old time brass bands, and ethnic bands, as well as an academic conference on old band music, and marketplace for sheet music, instruments, books, and recordings.

Most performances will be held outdoors and are free of charge, although donations toward expenses are welcome. Events usually begin each day at 12:00 noon in several city parks, and the music is continuous into the night with evening grand concerts at Bridge Square. Most performance sites are within easy walking distance of Downtown Division Street. Bring along your folding campstool!

Northfield is a known center for art galleries, antiquing, and unique gift shops. There is a wide variety of eating establishments from well-known trademarks such as Perkins and Taco Bell, to a wide variety of local ethnic restaurants.
