The North Suburban Community Band is seeking a new director.

The NSCB has been in existance since 1981, rehearses Monday nights 7:30 to 9:30 September through May at the Coon Rapids Junior High School and is comprised of approximately 50-60 members. Director auditions will likely be scheduled early September 1998.

Governor Arnie Carlson has Proclaimed April 19, 1998 to be Minnesota State Band Day in Minnesota. The Proclamation reads as follows:

Whereas: The Minnesota State Band has serve the people and the State of Minnesota with distinction in the 100 years since its establishment in 1898; and
Whereas: The Minnesota State Band presents live performances and concerts to audiences throughout Minnesota as well as for the enjoyment of audiences throughout the nation and abroad; and
Whereas: The Minnesota State Band has grown and developed over these many years, largely due to the enthusiasm, recognition and financial support of the Minnesota State Legislature; and
Whereas: The Minnesota State Band has been recognized for its fine performances representing the State of Minnesota by many who have been enriched by its music; and
Whereas: The Minnesota State Band is recognized as the official band of the State of Minnesota;

NOW THEREFORE, I, ARNE H. CARLSON, Governor of the State of Minnesota , do hereby proclaim April 19, 1998 to be: Minnesota State Band Day in Minnesota.

On April 19, 1998 at 7:30 p.m. the Minnesota State Band will perform its 100th Anniversary Concert at the Fitzgerald Theater (formerly World Theater) in Saint Paul. Free tickets my be order at http://www.mnband.org/.

For its 100th Anniversary Year, the Minnesota State Band will also perform a short concert tour of Germany and Switzerland. There will be approximately 4 concerts during the period July 7, 1998 to July 19, 1998 which are the dates of the tour. Each concert is hosted by the local community band in that country.

The band has a couple of openings for Tuba, Tympani and Drums, and Trumpet for this trip. Interested musicians should contact the band if they are interested in joining for this tour. The cost is $1,600, and when accepted the musicians will be provided membership as an Associate Member fo the Minnesota State Band.
