The Plymouth Community Concert Band will be performing a FREE concert on Sunday, May 20,2001 at 3:00PM at the Wayzata High School Auditorium (4955 Peony Lane North, Plymouth) WITH SPECIAL GUEST SOLOIST - flautist , Sandra Wolvington Sheih.Sandra Wolvington Sheih made her performance debut at the age of 14 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. That experience confirmed her desire to be a professional musician. Recruited by the music department as a junior in high school, Ms. Wolvington Sheih went on to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to receive a degree in flute performance. Since then, her teachers have included Adam Kuenzel, Marina Piccinini and Joshua Smith.
Active as both a symphony musician and soloist, Ms. Wolvington Sheih has been heard on stage throughout the Midwest. Her solo repertoire has included the Concerto in G by Mozart, Bizet's Carmen Fantasy, Chaminade's Concertino, and Bach's Brandenberg Concerto No. 4. She has made several recordings with the chamber ensemble Exultate as both soloist and symphony musician. Ms. Wolvington Sheih can be heard playing with the Waterloo Symphony, Duluth-Superior Symphony, Rochester Symphony and Mankato Symphonies. She has also taught masterclasses throughout Minnesota and numerous private students.
The Plymouth Band will accompany Ms. Wolvington Sheih on the Concerto for Flute and Orchestra in D Major and the Carnival of Venice. The concert program will also contain works from Van der Roost, Gershwin, Ellington, and King.
