Pneumatic Hexapod

November 1998. The images on this page are of a walking pneumatic LEGO model with six legs. After building the Quad-Acting Compressor it seemed quite necessary to have something useful to do with it. This is my first attempt at building a LEGO walker but I was inspired by other pneumatic projects on the web. There are a few links to other walkers and pneumatics related sites near the bottom of this page that contain a wealth of information on this subject. This model uses 3 small pneumatic cylinders per leg for 'muscles' and two inside the body that manipulate air switches as part of the 'pneumatic logic' that controls its walking behavior. All that is needed is to connect a source of compressed air with approximately 30 PSI of pressure. The LEGO compressor does enable it to walk but it only takes a few steps at a time . For the movie I used a different air source regulated to 30 PSI to keep it walking continuously.
