Thomas - Klemmetsrud Geneology

The Klemmetsrud spelling is interesting. Notice the different ways that it is spelled in these messages. Maybe Jim can answer some questions on that!

The Thomas "roots" are not easily followed with their migration from Germany to Ukraine to Winnipeg to Devil's Lake. Are we Ukranian, Russian or German? Can we claim all?

The Klemmetsrud migrations are also not clear. Some came earlier and returned to Norway. Their migration path seems to go through Iowa, Fox (Minnesota), South Dakota(?). Some were leaders (can you imagine leaving home as a teen-ager and traveling a boat to a new country - Anne did this - brave soul!)

The more one looks at the tremendous decision processes to leave all the family relationships and travel on a "no-return" voyage with not many resources, respect and amazement at the character of these people is greatly enhanced. Alma and Sebastian never returned to their "roots" in the "old country" but seemed to find their lives together in this new land (as did many of their family). They left behind their native language and became "American". Close family relationships were their bond.

Many "contacts & detail" have been "lost" in both families. Some searching and collective "memories" may bring some things together but the "senior generation" has departed so things are not easily reviewed/recalled.

Let's hope Jim and Jean provide us more information as their research progresses! Jim has instigated some questions on, "Why did they come? What caused them to "pull up and move" to a new land?"

Notes on these files:

These web files are text versions that can be printed directly from your browser (if you use the "landscape mode" for printing)! When viewing these files, they will probably scroll, to the right, off your monitor page. (I recommended to set your monitor resolution, if you can, to minimum of 800x600). That's why "landscape mode" should be used for printing. These files should print directly from the browser, even if they scroll off the screen, using the "landscape" mode for printing. Experiment with the printing size (not dependent upon what kind of computer you use).

1. These files print on my printer using "landscape mode" and "90%" size.
The print is small but it fits on one page (use a magnifying glass).
Vary the print size until they print on one page for you!

2. You can also just drag across the text in your browser, copy the text, and paste into any word processor.
Use a monospaced font since this text version uses spaces rather than tabs to line up things. Things will not "line up" using a proportional font!

3. For some of you, I have provided some download files.
These files are text files and can be used in any word processor.
Remember: Use a small (9 point) monospaced font (Courier/Monaco).
These files are compressed (.sit for the Mac, .zip for Windows)

SPECIAL NOTE: There are no clickable hyperlinks on the following pages (so you don't get those "nuisance" links on your printed copy when you print the pages from your browser). Just use the Back button on your browser to navigate.
