My 1984 Magna

Well, For those that know me, I did the unexpected. I purchased a motorcycle. To be exact, a 1984 v30 Honda Magna. I haven't had very many opportunities to ride it lately, but I'm hoping to put a good number of miles on it this coming spring. It's my first bike and I hope I can make it though this learning experience without trashing it. Someday, I hope to eventually find a decent v65 to purchase, but for now this varmint suits me fine.

Classifieds Search For Magnas

Search the following newspapers immediately for Honda Magnas, Sabres, or Valkyries. (yeah, I like Valkyries too).

Sorry, none of these queries work right now. The two newspapers I was testing out have real back-asswords APIs to their search engines.

Minneapolis Star Tribune

St. Paul Pioneer Press

Bike History

Even after a month of ownership I already find I have questions about the previous owners of this bike (I'm the third owner, as far as I know). From what I've learned there are a couple of strange inconsistancies that I am not too sure about. It doesn't help that I learned that the second owner purchased the bike from a store in Jordan, MN that is commonly known to reposess bikes or to purchase bikes from police auctions.

The Keys

I have two keys for this bike, one for the tank and the rear seat, and the other for the ignition. Neither key says "Honda" and from what I hear, Magnas only come with one key out of the factory. So there is a chance that the ignition was replaced for some reason. Also, since the tank does not have the traditional Honda wing logo I suspect that the tank may have been repainted once or replaced entirely.

Honda Magna Links

When I tried a few lookups for Honda Magna on the web I was surprised to find an entire owners' group for Magnas and Sabers including various gallery web sites and a mailing list. The information I found was helpful in making the final decision as to what bike to get, so I feel it's only fair to help spread the word about some of the more helpful sites out there.
