Heidi Dog

I acquired Heidi, a German-Shepherd Dog mix (I think with Husky) in Early 1997. Since then, we've done a bit of training (not enough though) and a lot of walking. Heidi has been an awesome companion in the woods, wether hiking or canoeing. Since she joined the family, she's been on multiple day hikes, two backpacking trips and a canoe trip. The canoe trip was a blast, starting as a three day adventure with three couples, followed by a four day trip with just Heidi and myself. The solo trip was a gas, Heidi did a great job keeping the campsites relatively chipmunk-free, and carried her own weight on portages too.

In 1999, she and I hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. The photo is from a stream in the Barren/Chairback range in Maine, about 60 miles from Katahdin, the end of our 2100 mile hike. More info on our hike is available at my pre-hike planning page and at a friend's Simon Tracking System web site.
