06/23/2004: "Playing Spacefarers of Catan"
Becka and Rachel are playing "Spacefarers of Catan" in the dining room. I just got home from Band rehearsal, so I'm helping Rachel. But she doesn't really need much help!
Becka just took the Carbon colony planet. "No, that's my planet!" said Rachel. Hee hee, Becka was sneaky. They just put a space pirate into the game.... I wonder whose space ship he will attack? Do you think he'll sing Gilbert and Sullivan tunes when he does?
Rachel is now exploring outer space and discovered a place to sell Carbon. She flew on and stopped at another planet where she bought some food and fuel. Then she put another laser cannon on her space ship, and upgraded her booster rockets.
Meanwhile, Lucy is tearing a soda carton to itty bitty bits.
The Pirate just attacked Becka! She bribed him to leave her alone. And he didn't sing a note! Mean old thing.

Kathy said the birds were after the cherries and they were! They wouldn't have lasted till you got home. There was a robin scolding at us the whole time we were picking, he thought we were "stealing" his fruit. Badger helped us by eating the cherries off the bushes (the ones she thought were too low for us to reach) as we picked, then she started sneaking them out of the buckets we were picking them into. The two black kittens also helped us, they tipped Kathy's bucket over, kept racing around and dashing up the trees and batting at our hands while we were picking. The animals were a darned nuisance!
I have the juice dripping in a jelly bag right now. There will be chokecherries later in the summer if we want to pick those.

I am not entirely certain I want any of you sleeping under my roof, you are beginning to sound demented.
I am on my way to the Little House on the Prairie (Howies) to pick cherries, maybe there'll be jelly by the time you get here. I am hoping to see the burrowing owls on my way out there. Kathy says the birds really like the ripe cherries, but I son't think the owls are a threat.
