Anne Goes to the Movies
Me 'n' movies:
The Best Movie Theaters in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St.Paul, Minnesota):
-
Minnesota Film Arts:
The merger of the University Film Society (UFS)
and the Oak Street Cinema is twice as nice.
Dedicated to top-class world cinema, especially foreign and independent films.
They show some GREAT movies - it's worth the effort to keep track
of their schedule.
-
Parkway Theatre
An old-fashioned movie house, with one large screen,
that specializes in sleeper hits.
If it's showing at the Parkway, you know it's good.
(And the popcorn is good and cheap!)
-
Riverview Theater
The nicest of the old-fashioned, big-screen movie houses.
Second-run hollywood hits with occasional
revival or indie movies and great popcorn
make this a good choice.
-
Heights Theatre:
Mostly mainstream flicks in a classic theater
with a real theater organ!
-
Walker Art Center Film & Video Program:
Eclectic. Artistic. Challenging.
Occasionally obscure, but always interesting.
The Walker is closed for remodeling from mid-February 2004 until February 2005.
-
Lagoon Cinema and Uptown Theater:
A chain multiplex showing some indie and art films, mostly in English.
(One screen - the Uptown - is a real, old-style theater.)
Expensive, uncomfortable, and biased towards "EZ-viewing" movies,
but they've got a lock on many popular art-house films.
