Anne and the Web Server Handbook

The Web Server Handbook

Back in 1996, I was the editor and co-author of The Web Server Handbook, published by Prentice-Hall. (I edited the entire book, and I also wrote a chapter or two – including a quick reference for Perl.) The book was well received; PC Week said it was "a readable, useful addition to your library" (10/7/96), and BYTE said, "Novices will find TWSH an excellent introduction to the topic." (March 1997).

Like all Internet books, this one has aged, partly gracefully, and partly not. The basic HTML and web-design information in the book is still useful, as well as the Perl reference (if I say so myself). However, the details of setting up a web server have changed over the years.

The Web Server Handbook is still available, but is hard to find. If you're interested in slightly out-of-date but well written information, it's still worth the search. You can usually find it used if you look for a bit. Try BookFinder.com with a search for the title "web server handbook". And the book is occasionally listed on eBay, usually for under $10.
