Provided support to bookstore staff: Formatted digital images and composed text for bookstore website, created and maintained bookstore's MySpace page, assisted with set-up and staffing of bookstore events, including cashiering.

Keiko Media Arts Project
1998-2006
Founder of Keiko media arts project, which published an annual zine and a monthly e-newsletter; it also maintained a complementary website. As volunteer project director, I performed all administrative and production functions, including finance, publicity, marketing, page-design, imaging, layout, and website management. As editor, I managed working relationships with an international group of some 20 contributing writers and artists who produced the publication's content: reports, reviews, interviews, commentary, analysis, poems, memoirs, short fiction, photographs, illustrations, and cartoons. Overall, the project was a forum for exploration of and dialogue about societies and cultures of the far north.

Participated (for a few months) in staff roundtable discussions of workplace diversity issues. This fledgling staff group sponsored and endorsed diversity awareness events and activities within the organization.

Steering Committee Coordinator

Coordinated steering committee of independent periodicals publishers whose purpose was to lay the foundation for a local/regional branch of the Independent Press Association. The committee accomplished this goal by organizing public outreach events and member services workshops, and through the hiring of a start-up coordinator. My responsibilities as steering committee coordinator included: facilitating committee meetings, taking and distributing meeting minutes, setting up listservs, sitting on a hiring committee, and representing the IPA at public events.

Qualified by office of the county clerk to register eligible voters of the city of Chicago and all of Cook County. In 1988, as a registrar sponsored by Chicago Voter Registration Coalition, I registered over 400 voters. I also worked on voter registration drives in conjunction with Greater Chicago Citizens for the Arts, Lesbian/Gay Voter Impact, and Southwest Voter Registration Education Project.

Coordinated SAIC campus publicity, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and voter identification for US senatorial campaign of Carol Moseley Braun, who won the election. I also served as member of Illinois Students for Braun steering committee and co-led a voter registration workshop at statewide campaign volunteer retreat.

Coordinated electoral projects on the School of the Art Institute of Chicago campus, including voter education bulletin boards, voter registration drives for both the primary and general elections, and an eight-page voter's guide published in the student newsmagazine. In conjunction with this project, I was a lead organizer of a student delegation that traveled from our campus to Washington, D.C. to participate in the 1992 March for Women's Lives.
