Colocation Bandwidth Usage

When you first set up your site or server, you'll likely have no problem with the bandwidth included in basic colocation. As your services and popularity expand, however, it is quite likely that you'll need something extra. As a colocation customer, you have the choice of either committed or burstable bandwidth to meet your bandwidth needs.

Committed Bandwidth

We recommend using our Committed Bandwidth service. Committing to a specific rate of bandwidth allows you to take advantage of discounted bandwidth pricing. Since your bandwidth charges will not vary month to month, it will also help you easily budget your colocation services. VISI will put a hard threshold on your committed bandwidth so you do not go over your allotted rate.

Burstable Bandwidth

Afraid of commitment? If you prefer to have more flexibility in your bandwidth, we can also leave your bandwidth burstable. Your usage will be measured on a monthly basis and charged based on the 95th Percentile.

The 95th Percentile is calculated by polling both inbound and outbound bandwidth utilization every five (5) minutes. All of the samples that were pulled throughout the month are then ordered from highest to lowest. The top 5 percent of readings are then discarded, and the customer is billed based on the next highest reading. Burstable Bandwidth is billed in arrears, the month after the usage occurs.
