VISI uses an open-source technology called BackupPC to provide basic data backup services for customers.
We maintain a private 1Gbps data network that is specifically designed for data backup. The private backup network ensures greater data backup speeds and enhanced data security. Each device that we backup requires a dedicated 100Mbps or 1Gbps network interface to connect to our data backup network.
We backup all customer data to disk storage vaults. The disk storage vaults provide fast data backup and restore performance. We support all major operating systems -- Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, and others. Our data storage vaults connect to customer servers using the industry standard rsync protocol.
Weekly Backup Schedule
Currently we provide weekly full data backups and daily differential data backups. We specify a data backup window for each device. Typically the data backup window is between 6pm and 6am CST. The disk storage vaults will perform backups during the backup window based on an efficient queuing strategy. The backup process will slightly degrade the performance of client servers while a backup is in progress.
Data Retention
We maintain a 14-day archive of data on our disk storage vaults. The disk drives in our storage vaults are rotated once every two weeks. We maintain up to 30-days of backup data for each customer.
