Twin Cities Blind Audio Dart League

I am a member of the Twin Cities Blind Audio Dart League.

We play darts blindfolded.

Yes, I did say blindfolded.

Most of the people on the league are visually impaired.

No, no one gets hurt.

We have sighted spotters who make sure of that.

And we use rubber tipped darts.

It's not that hard, my first year I got Rookie of the Year.

Here is a picture of a dart board:

Here are some pictures of me getting ready to throw darts, taken by one of the other league members at the tournament in 2005:

We play using a talking dart board which indicates which number was hit.  The spotter's job is to indicate what section of that number was hit (inside circle, outside circle, near the bulls eye, way off to the right, etc.)  Some players who are still learning where the numbers are, prefer to be told where their dart hit in terms of an analog clock face (for example, "inside, five o'clock").

We usually have at least 5 teams, sometimes there are 6 or more teams.  Each team has four players who play on the game night, but the team can have a 5th player who can fill in or they can rotate and take turns having the night off.  We also have a list of substitutes who can come and fill in when a team does not have four players available to play that night.  I was on the sub list during the 05-06 year and was asked to sub many times on different teams.

Each game night, there are 6 games.  Two players from each of two teams play against each other with each player playing three of the six games.  They play 301 where they each start with 301 points and the goal is to have your two teammates' points total closest to zero at the end of 9 rounds.

We have a lot of fun playing darts.  There are some people who take the game very seriously and others are there to have fun and socialize.  We play at one of three bars in the cities, and two teams are at each bar when we have six teams.  When we have five teams, one team has a bye each week and only two bars are used.

We have a tournament every January which is a blast, and we play four different games and prizes are given to the winners of the first five places.  Also, prizes are given to the highest ton, which is a score over 100 with your three darts on a single turn. I placed third in one of the tournament games in 2005 and placed fourth and fifth in two of the games in 2006.  In 2006, our league tournament was featured in the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
